Opportunity Fund

We are really excited to announce our new initiative to reduce the financial barrier of attending events hosted by the SBSS and partner clubs. This fund is available for multiple events throughout the year, either professional or academic, to help provide equal access and meaningful opportunities for all Sprott students.

Procedure:

Application Process for Students:

  1. Students fills out the form which only the VP Internal has access to;

  2. Upon the closure of the application form for a given event, the VP Internal removes identifying information from the application form and shares it with the VP Finance and President for review;

  3. The president and VPF will collectively review the applications in line with the criteria for a successful application. The decision must be unanimous;

  4. The VPF will either create discount codes through the ticketing system and contact applicants with the details OR forward applicant information to the respective person in charge of the ticketing platform;

  5. The applicant is then responsible for purchasing the ticket before ticketing closes for the respective event.

Application Process for Clubs and Internal events to qualify:

  1. Respective club or event representative fills in the form;

  2. The President, VPI and VPF collectively review the application within 5 business days of receipt, an event must reach a majority decision to be approved;

  3. The selection committee will communicate the result over email. The club then must provide the supporting details and documentation for the event.

Criteria for a successful application students:

  1. Undergraduate SBSS Levy Paying Student;

  2. Must fill in the application form prior to the closing date;

  3. Must provide complete and accurate information to all questions in the application;

The intent is not for the application process to be competitive. However, should there be a surplus of applicants comparable to the amount of funding available applications may:

a) be offered a different degree on the payment scale

b) be evaluated based on the meaningfulness of answers in the written application.
