Internal Case Competition: Recap

November 27, 2018

Last Saturday, November 24th, marked the annual SBSS Internal Case Competition. SBSS worked with Enterprise testing students critical and analytical thinking skills through a three hour case crack and presentation. The students were split into two divisions: the Junior Division, consisting of first and second years, and the Senior Division, consisting of third and fourth years.

In the Junior Division there were 10 teams total, each with three students per team. With some teams having no case competition experience, judges were impressed with their confidence and hunger to crack a case on popular ridesharing service Uber. The case first talked about Uber’s past CEO Travis Kalanick and his role with the company. It then grew on to talk about the different challenges involving finance, human resources and ethics involving himself and the Uber and resulted in him leaving Uber and the company not progressing as well after.

The other division sat the Seniors where they were split into two pools. Within each pool based on scores, a winner was chosen. The winners of each pool would then compete against each other in the final round where they would present to an open audience and all of the Senior Division judges. The Senior Division was given a case about Enterprise where they had to tackle the challenge of how Enterprise should grow for the future while maintaining their competitive advantage of customer service.

Teams presented various strategies and put their knowledge and skills to the test. First analyzing the current situation of the company and environment and then providing a strong thought out recommendation for the company.

The event concluded with a networking part in Ollie’s Pub where students connected with judges, other students and faculty members.Thank you to everyone who helped put the event together!
